In juni 1979 werd in het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel een grote tentoonstelling ingehuldigd, die later op andere locaties zou plaatsvinden. Hergé was niet betrokken bij de details van de tentoonstelling, maar de makers legden uit dat het de bedoeling was om enkele objecten die Kuifje tegenkomt in zijn avonturen naast de echte objecten te plaatsen die hen inspireerden. Op de poster die hij voor de tentoonstelling maakte, tekende Hergé zijn hoofdpersonen midden in een denkbeeldige tentoonstelling, droomspullen voor Kuifje-fans en verzamelaars.
