De personages en objecten van deze nieuwe serie zijn ontworpen op basis van de poster Herge gemaakt voor de tentoonstelling "Het Denkbeeldige Museum van Kuifje" in 1979. Elk beeldje wordt geleverd in een speciale doos met een certificaat van echtheid. In juni 1979 werd in het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel een grootschalige tentoonstelling ingehuldigd, die later op andere locaties zou worden georganiseerd.
Hergé was niet op de hoogte van de volledige catalogus, maar de organisatoren legden hem uit dat het doel van deze tentoonstelling was om de legendarische voorwerpen die Kuifje tijdens zijn avonturen verzamelde te vergelijken met de echte voorwerpen die Hergé inspireerden. Hergé maakte de poster van de tentoonstelling en tekende zijn hoofdpersonen midden in een denkbeeldige setting waar veel Kuifje-fans en verzamelaars alleen maar van konden dromen."
